Community Engagement and Local Development

Discover our social impact strategy - and our three core pillars, Education, Energy and Environment. Together, they form Zelestra’s 3Es Strategy. This approach is brought to life through three flagship programs: Zelestra FutureS, Zelestra EmPowerS and Zelestra ReNatureS.
At Zelestra, our commitment to the communities where we operate goes hand in hand with our purpose of making decarbonization a reality. We believe that the energy transition must deliver shared value, leaving a positive and meaningful legacy in the territories where our projects are located.
Our social impact strategy is structured around three core pillars, Education, Energy and Environment, which together form Zelestra’s 3Es Strategy. This approach is brought to life through three flagship programs: Zelestra FutureS, Zelestra EmPowerS and Zelestra ReNatureS, designed to respond to local needs while supporting long-term, sustainable development.
Zelestra’s community initiatives are designed to create lasting value in the regions where they are implemented, supporting social progress while contributing to local economic resilience. Through a combination of education and skills development, access to clean and affordable energy, and environmental and circular economy initiatives, our programs help strengthen employability, reduce operating costs for essential community services and reinforce local value chains.
Consistently fulfilling our commitments and making promises we can keep is paramount, guided by honesty and transparency. We go the extra mile to continuously improve our social performance.
Zelestra’s community development targets are designed to scale in line with the company’s growth, with the scope and ambition of social investment and engagement activities directly linked to the increase in installed capacity (GW in operation) and, consequently, to the growth in total social contribution. As the company expands its operational footprint, Zelestra aims to progressively broaden the reach and impact of its community development programmes.
From a social impact perspective, key focus areas include increasing the number of households with access to clean energy, expanding the number of direct and indirect beneficiaries of Zelestra’s assets and programmes, including both mandatory and voluntary initiatives, as well as social and environmental actions, and strengthening local employment creation, both direct and induced. Additional indicators relate to employee and community volunteering, reflecting the company’s commitment to active engagement with the communities where it operates.
Recognising the importance of delivering value beyond the operational life of its assets, Zelestra’s “3Es” Social Impact Strategy places a strong emphasis on education-focused programmes, aimed at generating long-lasting benefits that extend well beyond project closure. By supporting education and skills development for children and young people, today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce, Zelestra seeks to ensure that its positive social impact continues over the long term, independently of the presence of the energy infrastructure.
This year we have delivered many projects across the world, including a programme to repurpose waste materials originally used in packaging and temporary structures during the construction of the San Martín solar plant in Perú, to create new school furniture that will be donated to local schools. This transformation is carried out through a collaboration with Fundación Don Bosco, which manages the manufacturing process, while Zelestra employees volunteer their time to coordinate the project, address logistical challenges, and ensure that the furniture reaches the children who need it most. By 2026, Zelestra commits to deploying at least one social program in every operational or under-construction project. At program level, our objective is to ensure balanced and consistent progress across Zelestra FutureS, Zelestra EmPowerS and Zelestra ReNatureS, delivering at least one initiative per program each year. In addition, Zelestra EmPowerS is linked to specific targets under our sustainable financing framework. In 2025, this commitment resulted in the installation of 7 renewable energy systems in community-based social interest centers, with work already underway to reach the 2026 target of 9 installations.
Progress against these objectives is tracked through our social indicators and will be formally reported in our 2025 reporting.
