Zelestra secures contract in Italy’s second FER X auction for a solar project of up to 108 MW

The auction result has secured a contract for Zelestra’s largest solar project in Italy, with a capacity of up to 108 MW in Sicily. Zelestra also recently secured contracts for 60 MW across 8 projects in the first FER X auction at the start of December.
Zelestra, a global, multi-technology and customer-focused renewable energy company, has secured a contract for a project in Sicily with a capacity of up to 108 MW in the second FER X auction in Italy.
The project is the largest in Zelestra’s Italian portfolio, and the contract comes on the back of the company securing eight projects totalling approximately 60 MW of solar capacity in the first FER X auction at the start of December.
The FER X auction mechanism is a central driver of Italy’s clean energy transition, supporting national objectives on decarbonisation, energy security and the competitiveness of diversified supply chains. Zelestra’s projects will contribute to strengthening Europe’s clean-tech ecosystem, demonstrating how large-scale renewable projects can accelerate local value creation, reinforce industrial sovereignty, and enable the development of next-generation energy technologies across the continent.
Italy is one of Zelestra’s fastest growing markets, with a portfolio of more than 1.4 GW of BESS and solar projects in total. The company announced earlier this year the initial offtake agreement for a large-scale 2 GWh BESS project to be located in the north of Italy, one of the largest battery storage projects in Europe.
Eliano Russo, Zelestra’s Country Manager in Italy, said: “FER X is proving to be a powerful instrument to accelerate Italy’s clean energy transition and strengthen the country’s industrial competitiveness. We now await with anticipation the definitive FER X. To deliver two successful auction results in the space of a fortnight is a credit to the hard work that the Zelestra team in Italy has been delivering for many years to have the projects fully developed and ready to submit. It has been a very successful year for Zelestra in Italy, and we look forward to work starting on the ground on all these projects next year.”
